Membership Meeting 2014

In the well-attended general membership meeting in the Bammental restaurant “Pavarotti”, the “Light for Africa” chairman, Mr. Valentin Schnitzer welcomed members and guests. After the yearly activity report and the cash report, Mrs. Rehfuß applied for the approval of the action for the managing board and the cashier for  last year’s activities, which were both granted. The members expressed their satisfaction by acclamation for their work done. After the yearly report of the secretary, the chairman gave insights into the Tanzania projects.

Our cooperation in Tanzania was intensified by visits and project assignments.

We have received a request for a turbine-driven water-supply pumping-station for the Ipamba Hospital in Tosamaganga, which we support for years already. Besides the hospital itself, an adjacent Orphanage, a school for nurses and personnel’s accomodation should be supplied. The association has submitted its expertise and is awaiting response.

After the breakdown of the generator of our pilot-project in Kindimba, our association provided a subsistution and sent it by airmail to Tanzania. Mr. Godfrey, our local specialist, was entrusted with the assembly and launch of the new installation. The association has no further news but assumes, that the installation will not be relaunched until the connection with  four village-parts can be endeavoured. Herefore we still wait for the REA (Rural Energy Agency) financial commitment.

The John Fute Hydro Power Centre, our partner in the Njombe region, has further enlarged its installations and endeavoured new projects with villages.

The cooperation with GIZ (Society for International Cooperation) has initiated them to assign and finance a coordinator for the association projects and for John Fute. This coordinator will be posted at the local development society of the diocese and will also from there coordinate the small hydropower projects of the diocese. We had the opportunity to meet the condidate, Mr. Gregor Probst, who has previously worked with Mr. Teege, on the occasion of a visit to Bammental. At the moment, GIZ is assessing the task and is planning to tender the assignment, which will take several months. The association is nevertheless optimiistic that the coordinator will be available for assignment in summer. This should improve the John Fute project efficiency and the communication with the association.

Es sei vorgesehen, die jetzt begonnenen Anlagen zunächst als Getreidemühlen auszubauen, und in einer zweiten Phase, wenn sich die Gemeinden organisiert haben und Geld verdienen, die Elektrifizierung zu betreiben. In den bereits erstellten Anlagen will der Verein versuchen, die technischen Mängel zu beheben.

Auch wenn die Zusammenarbeit mit John Fute schwierig sei, will der Verein ihn bei der Durchführung von  ca. acht Projekten unterstützen, da sich hier eine vielversprechende Entwicklung abzeichnet.

Abschließend hielt Herr Teege einen Dia-Vortrag über seinen Aufenthalt als Senior-Experte in Tansania vom  12.11. bis 16.12. 2014, bei dem er im Auftrag des Vereins die Projekte besucht hatte. Er bestätigte durch seinen Einblick in seine dortige Arbeit auch die Schwierigkeit in der Zusammenarbeit beider Partner, die der Vorsitzende des Vereins schon in seinem Bericht dargelegt hatte.

Nach dem Vortrag schloss sich eine rege Aussprache an. Abschließend dankte Valentin Schnitzer Herrn Teege für seinen informativen Vortrag und schloss die Mitgliederversammlung.

Darüber hinaus ist zu erwähnen, dass ein Treffen mit der Frauenbeauftragten Frau Huruma Komba stattfand, die im Herbst 2014 den Bischof aus der Diözese Mbinga bei dessen Besuch in Deutschland begleitete. Hier wurde besprochen, dass sie die Gemeinden Litembo und Kindimba besucht, um dem Verein zu berichten, wie er mit Kleinkrediten die dortigen Frauen unterstützen kann.

Außerdem ist für den 12. September 2015  ein 3. Afrikafest in und um der TV-Halle geplant.
